We’ve said it once, and we’ll happily say it again, there isn’t a single celebration out there that a hog roast can’t make better. Family get-togethers, big milestones, work dos – you name it, there’s just something about a spit-roasted hog that pulls people together in a way nothing else can. Don’t just take our word for it though, the proof’s in the pudding, or in this case, the pig.
Since August rolled in, our team’s barely had a moment to breathe and one of the standout jobs we’ve handled so far was catering an 80th birthday for the wonderful Beryl. The celebrations took place at the luxurious Headingley Hall retirement apartments, and with 50 names on the guest list, the host was after a menu that felt every bit as special as the occasion itself. Hog Roast Leeds was only too happy to make that happen.
Once we’d found the perfect spot out in the sprawling gardens, our team got to work rustling up a hog roast feast that guests genuinely hadn’t seen the likes of before. The pig itself spent hours over a low flame, cooked low and slow until the skin was crisp enough to shatter at the lightest touch. The stuffing came packed with herby, savoury depth and soaked through with all those delicious pork juices, while our homemade applesauce cut through all that richness with something light and sweet.
As for the sides? Let’s just say we’re not really ones for doing things by halves at Hog Roast Leeds – and for Beryl’s big day, she went with our Staple Menu 3, complete with a soft drinks package thrown in. That meant, alongside the hog roast, we brought out grilled vegetable kebabs served with tzatziki and flatbreads, herb-dressed new potatoes, a homemade coleslaw with just the right balance of creaminess and crunch, a mixed leaf salad brightened up with peppers and a tomato and mozzarella salad to round things off.
Guests were also welcome to two drinks each, everything from fizzy favourites to something cool and simple, which is exactly what you want alongside a spread this rich.
