Excitement is in the air at Hog Roast York as we gear up for an amazing event at the end of this month! We’re teaming up with the PTA from a nearby Yorkshire high school to celebrate Chinese New Year in a fun and tasty way. This special occasion will not only give the students a chance to learn more about Chinese culture, but it’ll also be a feast for the senses—and we’re in charge of bringing the flavour!
Chinese New Year is all about family, tradition, and, of course, delicious food. And when it comes to food, the pig plays a very important role. As the 12th animal in the Chinese zodiac, the pig is believed to symbolise good fortune, prosperity, and completeness. That’s why whole roasted pig is a traditional dish at Chinese New Year celebrations! And, as hog roast enthusiasts ourselves, Hog Roast York couldn’t think of a better way to honour the occasion.
Our famous spit-roasted pig, slow-cooked to perfection over a low flame, promises the perfect balance of crispy skin and melt-in-your-mouth, tender meat. Served with homemade applesauce, sage and onion stuffing, and freshly baked rolls, it’s a true showstopper—and we’re confident both the students and staff are going to love every bite.
But we’re not stopping at just the hog roast! To bring an oriental flair to the menu, we’ll also be serving some irresistible appetisers: roasted duck with ginger and beansprouts, crispy spring rolls with hoisin sauce, and delicious chicken satay skewers drizzled with peanut sauce. These savoury dishes are sure to transport everyone straight to the heart of Chinese cuisine.
We’re also making sure that all dietary preferences are catered for with a vibrant, meat-free option. Our grilled vegetable and halloumi kebabs, served with flatbreads, tzatziki, and sweet chilli sauce, offer a colourful, flavorful alternative that will leave everyone craving more.
With Chinese New Year falling on January 29th this year, there’s still plenty of time to plan an unforgettable celebration. Whether you’re hosting a family gathering or a larger community event, Hog Roast York is here to help you create a feast that everyone will enjoy.
Here’s to the Year of the Snake—may it bring prosperity, good fortune, and, of course, incredible food!
