In Romanian culture, naming day celebrations—known as onomastica—are a big deal, almost as big as birthdays! So, when Mihaela and Bogotá, a lovely couple from Romania, asked Hog Roast Hawes to cater their baby’s naming day party earlier this month, we were truly honoured. And it wasn’t just a special day for their little one; it was also the eve of their wedding, making it a double celebration!
The party took place on a Friday at the stunning Ponden Mill in Keighley, a beautifully restored mill offering a unique blend of history and industrial charm. The venue provided the perfect backdrop for such an important occasion, with its open, rustic architecture creating an intimate and cosy atmosphere for the couple and their 40 guests.
Luckily, the weather was on our side too, with clear skies and not a hint of rain in sight. We set up our catering gazebos outside, next to the venue’s sheltered seating area, giving guests the chance to mingle comfortably while taking in the gorgeous surroundings. And of course, they had plenty of delicious food to enjoy! Mihaela and Bogotá had chosen Hog Roast Hawes’s ever-popular Alfresco Menu, which perfectly suited the relaxed yet elegant tone of the day.
Our Italian Antipasti platters were, as always, a crowd-pleaser! Featuring vibrant cold cuts, fine cheeses, juicy grapes, strawberries, olives, and freshly baked artisan breads, these platters not only tasted amazing but also looked beautiful. Guests loved the colourful, stylish presentation, and they were the perfect conversation starter to kick off the festivities in a warm, inviting way.
For the main course, we pulled out all the stops with our signature hog roast – a Hog Roast Hawes staple! The succulent, slow-roasted pork, served with crispy crackling, sage and onion stuffing, and a tangy applesauce, was devoured by all. The rich flavours and the shared meal brought everyone together in true celebratory fashion.
It was an absolute joy to be part of Mihaela and Bogotá’s special day, and we’re so glad they trusted us with such a meaningful celebration. Moments like these—where food brings people together—are exactly why we love what we do at Hog Roast Hawes!
