The origins of spitting Pigs involvement in the hog roasting industry go right back to the very beginning of hog roasting in the UK. A chap called Charlie went on a round the world trip after Unervicity on this trip he travelled extensively and worked in Australia where he came across Spit Roasting. Back then one of the only machines available was the wheel an roast built in Australia so Charlie bought two and sent them home figuring it would be fun to do after his travels. When he returned to the Uk he had two big boxes waiting for him having no idea how to build a hog roast machine he got his friend Henry who had been travelling with him to give him a hand.

Together they built the machines then the real fun began how on earth do you cook a pig? Well then began a journey of trial and error until the two decided they where ready to let themselves loose on the unsuspecting general public. It was decided to do a friends party this went really well. Perhaps we are onto something the friends thought next came a battered old transit van then the friends were in business. They went from strength to strength and decided they needed help so another friend Sebastian was roped into help.

Having spent all summer sleeping in the back of the transit van cooking pigs Charlie and Henry decided it was time to join the real world and get a job. Sebastian however could see the potential and decided to turn a small time fun hog roast company into a proper commercial concern. He had plans, yet another friend Adam was enlisted to help and these two set about becoming the UK’s leading provider of hog roast catering in all its forms. Selling to the public at fairs and on the street at markets and also doing parties initially for family and friends then spreading their net throughout the UK, Northern Spit Roast was born.

Whilst selling pig sandwiches at Whalley Abbey they where summoned by the local burger baron who had plans of his own to be big in event catering. The two friends apprehensively went over to see Bernard in his four wheel drive wondering what they had done to offend the local burger mafia. I like you lads stick with me boys and you will be alright they where told. Build yourself a hog roast trailer and get on the circuit doing the county shows that is where the money is they where told. So Seb and Adam not ones to do things by half took Bernard at his word and built not one but two trailers and also bought two more trailers from Bernard. Then off they went cooking pigs, burgers fish and chips all over the country. Oh dear they had bread a monster that needed constant feeding.

Next came along Stephen who came to help for a weekend and over thirty years later is still cooking pigs! He turned up with a few clothes in a bag and went off to London from Manchester to work at the tall ships race. From there he went straight to Chessington world of Adventures to run the companies concessions there. Having left with a few clothes to work for the weekend Stephen did not see home again for 6 months. Seb and Adam continued doing the county shows and private parties. From these humble beginnings Spitting Pig was formed, it was decided a catchy name was needed so after several pints of Wards bitter and much brain storming the name Spitting Pig was born. Working hard the friends continued to grow the county show circuit doing really well building up a following who where sick of over priced poor quality food served by scruffy burger vans.

From Local Private Parties To National Corporate Events
As well as the shows a small catering company doing private parties began to take shape. Things continued along this vein until the show grounds realised that traders would pay increasingly large amounts of money to sell food at the county shows. What then started was a bidding war for spots and years spent giving good service and selling good quality food where simply ignored as greed got a hold of the show organisers. Unfortunately the big losers in all this where the public paying good money to go to county shows and now faced with paying several pounds for a very average burger or a pork sandwich made from joints of meat shredded up and served on a mass produced bun with poor quality accompaniments. It was decide not to continue playing this game as it went against everything that Spitting Pig stood for, which was great service and great food at a reasonable price. So Spitting Pig turned its attention to private parties, corporate events and weddings. Over the next few years Spitting Pig became the Uk’s leading supplier of hog roast catering covering every corner of the country with hog roasts in Glasgow, hog roast in Manchester, hog roast in Bristol right the way down to hog roast catering on the tip of Cornwall.
